Five Liverpool players who need a transfer this summer
Liverpool could be set for a transitionary summer in a new era under Arne Slot, with a host of players facing uncertain futures after the departure of Jurgen Klopp.
Slot was announced as Klopp’s successor last month and the ex-Feyenoord boss will undertake an assessment of the playing squad before making any major transfer decisions.
Some key players have yet to make a decision over their futures, with a host of interest expected in certain stars, however there will also be a selection of talent who will take Klopp’s departure as a sign to move on to pastures new.
FootballTransfers takes a look at five Liverpool players who may need a transfer this summer.

Caoimhin Kelleher
Liverpool consider themselves to have one of the best backup goalkeepers in the Premier League in Caoimhin Kelleher, however the Irish international’s ability is proving to be a double-edged sword due to his ambitions to be more than a deputy.
The 25-year-old proved his worth as a top-flight shot stopper, making ten appearances for the Reds last season in the absence of Alisson and, with two years remaining on his contract, Liverpool know Kelleher’s value will never be higher as he seeks to become a first choice keeper elsewhere.

Fabio Carvalho
Fabio Carvalho has had a turbulent time since signing for Liverpool in 2022, emphasised by his campaign last year, where he struggled on loan at Leipzig before thriving after joining Hull for the second half of the season.
The 21-year-old failed to convince Klopp of his credentials and may be hoping Slot gives him more of an opportunity, however Carvalho’s nine goals in 20 games in the Championship last year could give him the confidence to seek more first team football away from Anfield, be it on loan or permanently.
Sepp van den Berg
Some Liverpool fans may not even be aware of Sepp van den Berg, with the 22-year-old defender having not featured for the club since 2020 after multiple loan spells away.
But the Dutch youngster impressed at Bundesliga side Mainz last season, prompting interest from sides across Europe, although Van den Berg is said to frustrated at Liverpool’s asking price of more than €20 million, which could prevent his exit.
Nat Phillips
It may be hard to believe that Nat Phillips is still a Liverpool player, having played just 19 times for the club and making less than 100 total appearances across his career.
The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff and, with 12 months remaining on his contract, it is clear Phillips will never be more than a fringe player at Anfield and will need to find a new club this summer.
Rhys Williams
Another defender in a similar boat is Rhys Williams, with the 23-year-old also having no future at Liverpool after a string of unsuccessful loans.
Liverpool will likely have to take a nominal fee for Williams in order to avoid keeping him on the books for the remaining two years of his contract
