Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood has been one of the major transfer window talking points, but it finally appears obvious where the forward will be playing next season.

Greenwood spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Getafe, who had been desperate to retain the services of the exiled 22-year-old attacker.

Though there has been interest from several Serie A clubs, including Juventus and Lazio, it appears that Getafe will get their wish.

Club president Angel Torres has spoken in the national press about a transfer for Greenwood looking positive, although he did admit there could be a hitch.

He was speaking about Getafe’s plans for next season and was confident enough to include the once-capped England international in his squad.

In quotes relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Torres said: “We have 15 players on the staff plus Greenwood, for whom we hope to get good news soon and that he will stay for another year.

“As the press says, there are many different offers and we will accept what Manchester United say.

“It looks like he’ll continue here for another year. Every day there are more possibilities but you have to be cautious.”

Getafe loan poses Man Utd a big question

Getafe are only likely to be able to loan Greenwood, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €20.9 million and who netted 10 times for them last season.

If he does join the LaLiga club on another loan deal, though, United face losing him for nothing at the end of the season as his contract expires in 2025.

The Red Devils do have the option of triggering a one-year extension, but that could be a controversial move if they were to do so given they decided he was not fit to play for the club following an internal investigation into his behaviour in his private life.

This would leave Man Utd with a big question to answer over Greenwood but would at least buy them time to think of a solution.
