Revealed: Man Utd unlikely to sign Copa America star
Manchester United are unlikely to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo despite long-standing interest in the player, according to reports in Spain.
The Red Devils are searching for a new centre-back following the departure of Raphael Varane on a free transfer and they have been linked with a number of players, including Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
A move for Araujo, however, is now unlikely following recent developments.

The Uruguay international, who is currently competing at the Copa America with his nation, has been monitored by Man Utd since 2022, but a potential move is “very cold”, according to Matteo Moretto.
In fact, Erik ten Hag’s side are instead prioritising a move for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, who could leave the Allianz Arena after two years at the club.

Matthijs de Ligt to Man Utd?
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Man Utd’s interest in De Ligt, although the Red Devils are yet to discuss terms with Bayern.
“Man Utd keep working on the centre-back [position],” he told his YouTube channel. “We know that [Jarrad] Branthwaite remains absolutely on the list, but at the moment, Everton insists on £65m, £70m - too expensive.
“Man Utd will still go for Branthwaite but for different value, not for that money. So it depends on Everton, the player is keen on the move.
“Man Utd in the last hours also reached out to the camp of Matthijs de Ligt...at the moment still no bid, still no direct negotiation with Bayern. Probably after the Euros, this will become something really concrete between the clubs if Man Utd want.
“Man Utd took the information from the player's side that he could be open to a move to Man Utd even without Champions League football. So, De Ligt is a possibility for Man Utd.”
