Chelsea’s search for a new striker has seen them land on Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion.

The Blues have reportedly had a €40 million bid rejected by the Spanish giants as they ramp up their pursuit of the Spain U21 international.

How good is Samu Omorodion?

The Atletico Madrid forward has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past few years, having only joined Granada’s youth system from Nervion at the age of 17.

A subsequent move to Diego Simeone’s side eventually took place in 2023, after Omorodion’s breakthrough into the Granada first-team, and his performances on loan at Alaves last season have convinced Chelsea to enter the race to sign him.

Omorodion scored nine LaLiga goals during the 2023-24 season and was a constant threat as an in-behind runner as Alaves finished in a surprising 10th place.

At 6ft4in tall and possessing blistering pace, Omorodion’s physical traits are immense and it means he is a nightmare to defend against.

While his finishing isn’t yet polished, the Atleti forward has great movement inside the 18-yard box, he is also a huge danger on the counter-attack and is excellent at linking up with team-mates.

Omorodion isn’t the finished article, but he is an extremely promising forward and he has the potential to become one of the world’s very best.

Chelsea are currently leading the race to sign Omorodion. The Blues have seen a €40m bid rejected by Atletico Madrid, with the Spanish giants holding out for a larger fee.

Chelsea remain keen, however, as they look to bolster the playing squad available to Enzo Maresca.

Napoli and Roma are also interested in Omorodion.
