Chelsea flop snubbed by Premier League title winners
Graham Potter is set to be snubbed in the race to be the new manager of 2016 Premier League champions Leicester City.
Potter had been expected to get the job by a number of outlets - including The Sun and Fabrizio Romano - after holding talks with the newly-promoted Premier League side.
Romano had reported that Potter and Leicester were set to complete the formalities so that the ex-Chelsea boss succeeded Enzo Maresca as manager.
However, Sky Sports and the Daily Telegraph now report that former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has won the race.
Cooper is reported to be in advanced talks with Leicester and will be appointed as their new manager.
Leicester have been searching for a new manager after Maresca left the club to take the job at Chelsea.
Potter held talks over the job at Ajax and former team Brighton, and is now set to miss out on the Leicester job, as well.
When will Potter return to football?
Potter has been keen to return to football management for some time after over a year out of the game.
Potter had a disastrous time of things at Chelsea after replacing Thomas Tuchel as manager in the early weeks of the 2022-23 season.
Despite a world record transfer outlay from Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, the Blues found themselves in a dire position at the time of Potter’s sacking in April 2023.
They were down in 11th position in the Premier League, 11 points off Champions League qualification with just 10 games to go.
Boehly had attempted to be patient with Potter but that patience ran out and he brought in Frank Lampard as caretaker manager until the end of the season before hiring Mauricio Pochettino permanently for this campaign.
Pochettino lasted less than a year before being replaced by Maresca, who led Leicester to promotion from the Championship this past season.
