Spurs set £65m asking price for former Chelsea wonderkid

Tottenham will have to pay £65 million to sign Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke this summer.

The Athletic are reporting that Solanke has a £65m release clause in his contract and the Cherries are highly unlikely to sell for less.

Solanke was described as a wonderkid when he was with Chelsea's academy before leaving for Liverpool in 2017.

But, the Englishman failed to make much of an impact at Anfield and joined Bournemouth five years ago.

This turned out to be an excellent move for Solanke's career as he has since developed into one of the top strikers in the country.

It comes as no surprise to see 'big six' clubs like Tottenham interested in his services.

Solanke to Tottenham

Solanke has scored 77 times in 216 appearances for Bournemouth in all competitions.

And, the 2023-24 season was the best of his career to date, registering 19 goals and three assists in the Premier League alone.

Had it not been for Ollie Watkins' fantastic campaign at Aston Villa, Solanke might even have earned a place in England's squad for Euro 2024.

While Heung-Min Son and Richarlison are solid centre-forward options, Spurs need to sign an upgrade if they have ambitions of challenging for the Premier League title.

And, Solanke's pace and power would certainly suit head coach Ange Postecoglou's high-intensity system.

At 27 years of age, he is entering the prime of his career and the step up to Tottenham would be ideal.

£65m is not cheap, and Spurs need to make multiple signings this summer, but he would be worth every penny if he can replicate this season's goal tally in North London in 2024-25.
