The Gunners are poised to beef up their defensive ranks with the acquisition of one of Europe's biggest talents. Riccardo Calafiori is coming off a stunning season with Bologna, helping them qualify for the Champions League.

Calafiori also starred for Italy at Euro 2024 and it appears as though these performances convinced Arsenal to make a concrete attempt at signing him. They have moved swiftly and ruthlessly to agree terms with him, dishing out transfer lessons in the process.

The north London giants now only need to agree on a payment structure with Bologna, as revealed by FootballTransfers. Calafiori will be another excellent option at the disposal of Mikel Arteta and it is expected that he will initially come in to play as a nominal left-back.

This, then, spells bad news for other players at Arsenal.

Arsenal could sell star

According to Fabrizio Romano, the addition of Calafiori could end the Arsenal career of either Jakub Kiwior or Oleksandr Zinchenko, with the futures of both players the subject of frequent speculation.

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Arsenal are looking to sell Zinchenko this summer, while Kiwior continues to be courted by Serie A clubs.

Speaking on a Playback live stream, Romano answered in the affirmative when asked whether or not one of Kiwior or Zinchenko could be moved on following the impending arrival of Calafiori.

“If Calafiori signs, one of them could leave, for sure. That is a concrete possibility,” the Italian said. Romano also confirmed that talks between Bologna and Arsenal for the 22-year-old Italy star are entering the final stages. Calafiori is expected to arrive in north London next week.
