Arsenal Transfer News Today: Williams REIGNITED, Gyokeres CONDITION, Merino CLOSE
The latest Arsenal football transfer news updates, with the hottest updates on all the potential new signings and sales at the Emirates Stadium, including Viktor Gyokeres, Nico Williams, Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori.
Viktor Gyokeres update
Arsenal are simply waiting to sell Eddie Nketiah before moving for Sporting CP hitman Viktor Gyokeres, according to the Daily Briefing.
The Sweden star has long been considered a target for the Gunners, but the trail appeared to have gone cold until Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha reported the Gunners would analyse the player's pre-season performance before making a move.
Now it is reported, however, that they will swoop once Nketiah has left the club.
A deal, however, remains uncertain. Sporting are still aiming for a transfer fee around €100 million, with Arsenal set to bid more like €70m.
Nico Williams fight
Arsenal are ready to fight Barcelona all the way for Nico Williams, according to a report from The Evening Standard.
Nico, though, reportedly wants to remain in Spain, where there is strong interest from Barcelona. Indeed, it is expected that a deal will be done with the Camp Nou side should they raise a figure close to €60 million that it will take to trigger his release clause with Athletic.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the player is set to give his final approval to join Barcelona this summer.
The Blaugrana have been battling Arsenal for the Athletic Club winger, who has a €58 million release clause, and they look set to win the race for his signature.
“Barcelona are increasingly confident to get [the] final green light from Nico Williams to contract terms,” Romano tweeted.
“Club now confident about having convinced Nico about the project, with La Liga approval for Financial Fair Play as key step. More contacts to follow this week.”
Mikel Merino pushed to Arsenal by Barcelona
Barcelona are ready to give Arsenal a clear path to signing Mikel Merino unless they can find a way to sell Frenkie de Jong, according to Sport.
Barca have prioritised signing Nico Williams and Dani Olmo ahead of the Real Sociedad midfielder, the Catalan source states.
Sociedad are expected to allow Merino to leave for a fee in the region of €25m, but this is likely to be out of reach of the Blaugrana, leaving the Gunners free to complete a deal for the Euro 2024 winner.
Riccardo Calafiori latest
Arsenal have reached a final agreement to sign Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori for €50 million.
The Italy international will sign a contract until 2029, while he will earn a base salary of €3.5m per year, according to Nicolo Schira.

In addition, Bologna have included a 10% sell-on clause and Calafiori will undergo his medical with the Gunners this week.

Man Utd want Martin Zubimendi
Man Utd will rival Arsenal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to The Athletic.
Zubimendi, who has a €60m release clause, is considered to be Mikel Arteta's dream midfield target, but the Spain international has shown absolutely no inclination or willingness to leave his boyhood club this summer.
Diant Ramaj competition
Ajax are willing to offload Diant Ramaj this summer and Chelsea are among the clubs interested in the 22-year-old goalkeeper, as per Di Marzio.
The Blues have reportedly been informed on the conditions of a potential deal as they search for a new shot-stopper.
Arsenal are also interested in Ramaj, FootballTransfers understands, and clubs from Spain are eyeing a possible loan move.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale has been ruled out as a target for Chelsea, according to The Athletic.
