Antonio Conte to make new offer for former Chelsea wonderkid - Romano

Napoli are set to table a second offer for Billy Gilmour, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Serie A club's summer business has so far been overshadowed by the Victor Osimhen transfer saga. Napoli have not budged from their original demands much and talks with clubs, chief among them PSG, remain gridlocked.

However, so far, Napoli's business has been very promising indeed. After slumping to tenth place in Serie A last season, Antonio Conte has been hired and he has been given some nice tools to work with.

Rafa Marin and Alessandro Buongiorno are excellent defensive signings, while veteran Leonardo Spinazzola has come in to provide an option at left-back. However, football is not all about defending and Napoli are keen to also reinforce positions further up the pitch.

The midfield is one area where Antonio Conte wants to beef up his ranks and the Italian would love to be reunited with former Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour.

Napoli to make fresh bid

Though the Scotland international never managed to properly breakthrough at Stamford Bridge, he has since gone on to establish himself as a key player at Brighton.

The Seagulls would be loathe to lose him, but Conte is very keen on the 23-year-old. Exactly one week ago, links with Gilmour first cropped up, stating that Napoli would make a move for him this week.

They duly did so with Brighton CEO Paul Barber revealing a few days ago that the Seagulls knocked back an opening bid. Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the 2023 Serie A champions are set to return with a new offer.

Gilmour is keen on the move to Italy, though it remains to be seen whether Napoli's offer is good enough to prise him away from Brighton. The fact that Osimhen still hasn't been sold severely restricts what they can offer right now and Romano did not reveal any financial details.
