Chelsea remain interested in Bayern striker Mathys Tel, according to a report.

The French striker is coming off a strange season. Though always a substitute, Tel was incredibly effective in the early parts of the campaign, but he lost his impact as time went on and minutes were increasingly hard to come by.

This gave rise to transfer speculation, with Man Utd and Chelsea linked with the 19-year-old in the spring. However, Bayern managed to convince the Frenchman that he could go on to become the face of the Bavarian project for years to come.

In early March, Tel put all the rumours to bed by extending his stay at the Allianz Arena until 2029. The situation surrounding the youngster has been calm since then, but a new report is threatening to change all of this.

Chelsea still keen on Tel

According to journalist Si Phillips, Chelsea retain their interest in Tel and he even goes on to assert that this association could be 'one to watch' this summer. The Blues, of course, remain in the market for another attacker despite having already signed young pair Omari Kellyman and Marc Guiu.

Writing on his SPTC Substack, Phillips claimed: “Mathys Tel of Bayern is still very much ‘still one to watch’ right now according to SPTC sources. They believe that he could look to leave the club, depending on who Bayern sign in. It might be one that develops.”

Bayern have been very busy in the market so far this summer, most notably beating Chelsea to the signing of Crystal Palace star Michael Olise. They are also currently trying to sign left-winger Desire Doue from Stade Rennais, who could provide competition for Tel, who was often used out wide due to Harry Kane's presence at No.9.

However, one would think that new boss Vincent Kompany sees Tel as the backup striker to Kane rather than a winger, especially following the departure of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. It would surely take an incredible amount of money to get Bayern to sell Tel this summer.
