Chelsea to sell €50m star to fund 'two or three' more signings

Chelsea are open to selling Ben Chilwell this summer, according to a report.

The Blues have had yet another incredibly busy summer, having already signed seven players this window. However, Chelsea are far from done. In fact, according to The Athletic, they are aiming for at least two or three more arrivals.

Ideally, Chelsea would like to bring in more fresh faces before the end of July, but they realise that this is an unrealistic expectation, though one more deal already appears close.

An agreement with Boca Juniors for the transfer of young defender Aaron Anselmino has been reached and an official announcement is expected shortly, with the 19-year-old centre-back slated to remain in Buenos Aires until January.

Chelsea have also made an official approach for Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, while they remain keen on adding another striker or a right-footed winger.

However, to fund more incomings, Chelsea will have to complete some major outgoings.

Chilwell on the chopping block

High-profile stars such as Romelu Lukaku and Kepa Arrizabalaga are expected to depart Chelsea this summer, while three Todd Boehly signings are also already on the market, with one of them having only joined last summer.

Additionally, Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for Ben Chilwell, according to the above-mentioned report. Following the acquisitions of Renato Veiga and Caleb Wiley, and with Marc Cucurella also still at the club, the Blues currently have four left-backs, though Wiley is expected to join Strasbourg on loan.

Chilwell, signed for €50 million from Leicester in 2020, has struggled to stay fit and consistently perform in recent years and Chelsea would be prepared to cut him loose at the right price as he is also a big earner and not viewed as a particularly good match for Enzo Maresca's style.

The problem is that because of his physical issues, there is an acceptance that it will be difficult to generate significant interest in the former England international. Despite being only 27 years old, his injury record means that Chelsea will likely struggle to attract big-money offers for him.
