CONFIRMED: Doubts over Gallagher transfer despite Chelsea nearing deal
Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are close to agreeing a fee for Conor Gallagher but there are doubts the midfielder is open to a move to the La Liga club, FootballTransfers understands.
The England international is hoping to stay at Stamford Bridge for another season and there is the feeling that he will have his pick of Premier League clubs as a free agent once his contract is up in 2025.
Tottenham remain keen and a bid from the North London side is anticipated. Newcastle have also been credited with having an interest in Gallagher, too. But we understand that he will look to back himself next season at Chelsea and find regular minutes, even if he starts as a substitute under head coach Enzo Maresca.

It’s understood that Atletico have proposed a package worth up to €40 million for Gallagher, which is below Chelsea’s valuation. But sources inform us, however, that a deal is drawing nearer for the 24-year-old between the two clubs and it will be down to the player agreeing to a move.
“The transfer window is open so unfortunately something can happen," Maresca said on Tuesday at a press conference. "Not only with Conor, but all the players."

What did Conor Gallagher say about his future with Chelsea?
Gallagher was asked about his future at Chelsea ahead of his time in Germany with England for Euro 2024.
He said: "I'm a Chelsea player right now and I'm just thinking about England and the tournament. It's not difficult. I'm away with England and I couldn't be happier with the position I am in.
I've just been focusing on England. This is the most important thing right now for me and the country. I'm hoping I can help the team more on the pitch in this tournament."
Gallagher joined Chelsea when he was just eight years old. He rose through the ranks, being named Chelsea's Academy Player of the Year for the 2018–19 season.
He has played in 95 first-team games for Chelsea in all competitions so far, scoring ten goals.
