Enzo Fernandez continues to divide the Chelsea changing room after a video of the Argentina international emerged of the midfielder singing what has been branded a ‘racist song’ on social media following his success at the Copa America.

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that certain members of the Blues’ squad are furious with the 23-year-old after he shared a video that incorporated racist and transphobic lyrics on his Instagram page.

Wesley Fofana, Fernandez’s Chelsea teammate, criticised the “uninhibited racism” in the video in a social media post. He and several other Chelsea players unfollowed Fernandez on Instagram after the video emerged online.

Although Enzo has subsequently apologised via a social media post, the anger surrounding the player’s action continues to ripple through Stamford Bridge.

The Athletic reports: “Chelsea are investigating and internal punishment could follow — but there are no signs his six French team-mates have accepted the 23-year-old’s expressions of remorse.

“That situation is unchanged, and the dressing-room dynamic when Fernandez joins Chelsea in the United States on 29 July could be challenging for Maresca.”

Which Chelsea players are angry with Enzo?

Enzo, who joined Chelsea in a British record €121 million deal from Benfica in January 2023, suddenly finds his position at the Stamford Bridge side vulnerable, with free agent Adrien Rabiot being lined up by the Blues as a potential replacement for the World Cup winner if the atmosphere in the dressing room continues to be toxic.

The Blues contingent of French players – including Axel Disasi, Malu Gusto, Wesley Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, Lesley Ugochukwu – plus Belgian midfielder Romeo Lavia are all thought to be angry with the Argentine.

On top of this, David Datro Fofana seemed to have a dig at Enzo as he posted a message on his Instagram stories.

“The football that I like is multi-ethnic. Racism in all its forms should be condemned in the strongest possible terms. These acts have no place in football or even anywhere else. This fight really needs to be taken seriously by everyone in this sport,” he said.

The pressure, then, continues to build on Enzo.
