Romano reveals Chelsea's next PRIORITY after Dewsbury-Hall move

Chelsea will reportedly look to sign a new left-footed defender after sealing a move for Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The Blues have backed new boss Enzo Maresca in the transfer window and their spending shows no signs of slowing down.

They have agreed a deal to sign Dewsbury-Hall for €35.4 million and the 25-year-old has already completed his medical at Stamford Bridge. The move is expected to be officially announced very shortly.

Furthermore, the Blues are also in advanced talks to sign Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino. However, they aren’t prepared to stop there.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Chelsea want to sign a new left-footed defender. The west London club are reportedly exploring potential options, with Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori one of the leading candidates.

The Italy international, who shone at Euro 2024, has been internally discussed as a key target by both Chelsea and Arsenal, although they face significant competition from Serie A giants Juventus.

Chelsea already have Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell as left-footed defensive options, but the Blues are eager to provide Maresca with another player of this profile.

In addition to Calafiori, Milos Kerkez has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and FootballTransfers understands that he is being monitored by the west London club.

Chelsea’s summer transfer activity so far

The Blues have been extremely active so far this summer, with regards to both incomings and outgoings.

Tosin Adarabioyo has arrived on a free transfer from Fulham, Omari Kellyman has joined for €22.5m from Aston Villa and Barcelona wonderkid Marc Guiu has been purchased for €6m.

In addition, Chelsea have also finalised a deal that will see Brazilian teenager Estevao join the club next year.

Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson, Charlie Webster, Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech have all left Stamford Bridge on permanent deals.
