The Blues' search for a new goalkeeper appears to be coming to a swift and satisfactory conclusion. Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea are already closing in on the signing of top target Filip Jorgensen.

The west London giants had opened talks with Villarreal and the player just last week and swiftly managed to secure his green light for the transfer despite him having only recently signed a new long-term contract with the LaLiga outfit.

Talks over personal terms were not an issue with the 21-year-old shot-stopper who previously admitted that being linked to clubs like Chelsea was an honour for him. The Swedish-born Dane is keen on the move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had wanted to work quickly to avoid a potential highjack, with Roberto de Zerbi's ambitious Olympique Marseille also having enquired about the player. The Blues, it seems, have done an excellent job in the talks.

Chelsea close to agreement

As mentioned, Romano reports that Chelsea are now close to reaching an agreement with Villarreal for his transfer. The Premier League side's initial offer clocked in at €20 million, while their Spanish counterparts were holding out for at least €25m.

Due to this discrepancy being relatively minor, talks proceeded smoothly and Chelsea have tabled an improved bid that looks set to be accepted, Romano states. The Italian transfer expert claims that the talks are now in the 'final stages.'

The two clubs are discussing the structure of the payment and will then finalise the transaction. Talks were likely also aided by the decent relationship Chelsea and Villarreal have forged following last summer's transfer of Nicolas Jackson, when the Blues paid more than his release clause to land him.
