Enzo Maresca’s side have already confirmed the arrivals of Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall so far during the transfer window.

And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the Blues will soon add another player to their ranks, with Basel’s Renato Veiga set to sign his contract with the club imminently.

The 20-year-old has passed a medical in London after agreeing a contract until 2032, with Chelsea set to pay Basel €14 million for the versatile midfielder.

Veiga only joined Basel last summer as a replacement for Riccardo Calafiori, the Bologna defender who is currently in talks to join Arsenal.

Chelsea had also been linked with a move for Calafiori but the pursuit of Veiga is believed to represent a cheaper alternative to the Italian.

Veiga represents continued shift in Chelsea’s transfer policy

Veiga has been capped five times by Portugal’s under-21 side and predominately plays as a defensive midfielder, although he has often filled in at centre-back due to his 6 foot 3 inch frame.

The signing will take Chelsea’s spending to more than €75m this summer, while the club have also agreed to sign Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian for €60m next summer.

Chelsea appear to be focusing on cheaper opportunities in the market this summer, seemingly avoiding costly deals like €100m outlays on Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo under Todd Boehly.

The focus will also be on selling some of their fringe players in the coming weeks, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Kepa Arrizabalaga likely to find new clubs before the end of the window.

Chelsea have already raised more than €100m from their sales of Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall and Omari Hutchinson so far this window.
