Chelsea agree deal to sign Portuguese wonderkid - Romano
Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Renato Veiga, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues have snapped up yet another highly-rated youngster. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed a deal with FC Basel to sign 20-year-old Veiga.
A versatile defender, the Portuguese youth international is a product of the Sporting CP academy and spent some time on loan at Bundesliga side Augsburg last year before signing permanently for Swiss giants Basel.

The news of Veiga's imminent arrival has come out of nowhere, with Romano breaking it on his X account. The Italian has revealed that Veiga will be a relatively affordable acquisition for the Blues.
Romano reports that Chelsea will only pay Basel €14 million to secure Veiga's services, with the deal not including any bonuses or a sell-on percentage. Personal terms have already been agreed.
Veiga one for the future
Intriguingly, it appears that Veiga will be part of Chelsea's first team next season. Romano makes no mention of a potential loan to Ligue 1 affiliate Strasbourg.
Chelsea view the Portuguese as being capable of plugging several gaps in the squad, with Veiga capable of playing at left-back, centre-back and in midfield if necessary.
The Blues have been in the market for a young left-back and now appear to have found their man. Meanwhile, they also reportedly remain in talks with Atlanta United over Caleb Wiley, who is also a left-back.

However, the young American will move to Strasbourg either on loan or permanently if BlueCo manage to strike a deal. Strasbourg had already wanted to sign him in the winter window.
As for Veiga, after failing to impress during a six-month stint at Augsburg, he established himself as a starter at Basel last season, playing 26 times and notching two goals and an assist playing primarily as a defensive midfielder.
