The Blues have been linked with a move for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was one of the standout performers at Euro 2024 for Georgia.

But the Italian has stated that the Premier League outfit want a goalkeeper “whose strength lies in his distribution”, while dismissing the links to the Valencia player.

EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea eye promising Serie A teenager

Even though Chelsea brought in Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic last summer on long-term deals, it's believed that the West London side are now they are looking to sign a further name to the squad.

Enzo Maresca, who joined as the club's head coach from Leicester City, will look at Sanchez and Petrovic in pre-season. But it's thought that he would like to source another shot-stopper for the upcoming season.

What did Romano say?

Romano explained on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Chelsea are considering to bring in new goalkeeper to compete with Robert Sanchez, who’s starting the season as first GK. Despite early links with Mamardashvili, Chelsea are keen on GK who’s strength lies in his distribution.”

It's thought that Chelsea offered Petrovic to Serie A outfit Genoa this window, but so far nothing has come of it.

Petrovic joined last summer from MLS outfit New England Revolution. He enjoyed a good spell when he took over the No.1 spot from Sanchez, who was injured at the time.

Sanchez joined from Brighton but has struggled, making a number of notable errors. Earlier in the year, the reports suggested that Chelsea would continue on with Sanchez as their No.1, but it appears that Maresca is not convinced and would like to bring another keeper who can compete and potentially replace the 26-year-old.

Chelsea have been linked with names such as Mamardashvili and even Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale but it looks as though the Blues will look in the market for players of a different profile.
