Lukaku verbally agreed a deal until 2027, with Napoli set to pay him €6.5 million a year plus bonuses. There could also be an option included in the deal to extend until 2028.
However, any move will only be possible if Victor Osimhen is sold. The Nigerian has been heavily linked with a summer exit and Chelsea are one of the interested parties, along with Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Hilal.

Aaron Anselmino and Caleb Wiley close
Chelsea have 'everything in place' to sign Aaron Anselmino and Caleb Wiley as they continue to hoover up the best young talents in world football.
The Blues have already had an extremely busy summer transfer window, but they are set to sign both Anselmino and Wiley in the coming days, according to The Athletic.
Anselmino is set to join for around €20 million from Boca Juniors, although he will remain with the Argentine giants until January, while Wiley is on the verge of completing a €10m move from Atlanta United.
Rennes want Crysencio Summerville
Stade Rennais want to sign Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville as a replacement for Desire Doue, according to Foot Mercato.
Doue is expected to leave the club amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and even Chelsea, and Rennes are lining up Summerville as his replacement.
The Dutchman has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the past few months, but Rennes are hoping to sign him this summer.
Aston Villa enter Nico Williams race
Aston Villa are reportedly the latest club to enter the race for Athletic Club winger Nico Williams following his impressive form at Euro 2024.
Chelsea are also interested in signing the Spain international, but a move to Stamford Bridge appears unlikely as things stand, amid significant interest from Barcelona.
Despite the high likelihood of Williams joining Barca, Aston Villa have entered the race to sign him as they attempt a late hijack, according to TEAMtalk.
