New Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has revealed the Stamford Bridge’s club transfer plans as he was unveiled as a new player for the London outfit.

The Blues confirmed Jorgensen’s arrival late on Tuesday, with the Danish goalkeeper joining in a deal worth €24.5 million from Villarreal.

Chelsea have signed Jorgensen to compete with Robert Sanchez in the No.1 role, with the expectation being that Djordje Petrovic is moved on following the arrival of the 22-year-old.

The new keeper all-but-confirmed this will be the stance in an interview with the club’s official website, stating that he is looking forward to working with Sanchez – but making absolutely no mention of Petrovic, who made 31 appearances for the club last term.

“Robert Sanchez has been with the national team of Spain, where I live, and I followed him a bit when he was at Brighton and now Chelsea,” said Jorgensen.

“I know he is a very good goalkeeper and I hope we can learn from each other and produce the best versions of ourselves together.”

In addition to Jorgensen, Chelsea are also close to signing Genk goalkeeper Mike Penders for a fee of around €20m - a deal that would further point to Petrovic's exit.

Jorgensen inspired by Chelsea legend

Chelsea has always been a team on the radar of Jorgensen, the player says, because he followed the fortunes of Petr Cech when he was younger.

The former Czech Republic international played for the Blues from 2004 to 2015 and was for a long period regarded as one of the best keepers in the world.

He is also a player on whom Jorgensen says he modelled his game.

“I always liked watching Chelsea because I watched a lot of Petr Cech growing up, so Chelsea were one of my favourite teams to follow,” Jorgensen said.

He added: “I am very happy with how the last 12 months have panned out. I am very confident in myself and I know what qualities I have.

“Luckily I had the chance to show myself on the biggest stage in Spain and now I am very happy to have the chance to do that at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

Jorgensen could make his Chelsea debut against Club America on Wednesday, but likelier is that he joins the squad to face Manchester City in a friendly on Saturday.
