French club Bordeaux, who finished 12th in Ligue 2 last season, have unfortunately filed for bankruptcy.

Their players will now be available to join other teams on free transfers, including 17-year-old Mathys Angely.

The young centre-back has plenty of suitors, including Liverpool, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

The Reds could not be blamed for taking the opportunity to sign a promising player for no fee.

Angely made five league appearances for Bordeaux last season and is also part of France's under-17 national team.

It is highly unlikely that he would be a part of Arne Slot's first team if he were to join, but he could progress to that level in the future.

Liverpool's transfer business

Liverpool's only transfer moves this summer have been the departures of Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Adrian and Calvin Ramsay (loan).

With the start of the 2024/25 season now less than a month away, Slot will be hoping to see some new faces walk through the door sooner rather than later.

Besides Angely and other youngsters signed for the future, Liverpool need to make at least three additions to the squad.

A centre-back is needed to compete with the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez for a place alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Meanwhile, Ramsay's exit and Andrew Robertson's injury mean that a new full-back is a must.

Plus, the Reds need to freshen up their attack. Either a playmaker, winger or forward is needed just to bring something different to the Merseyside club.

With the Premier League being so competitive, standing still would result in the club going backwards.
