The 22-year-old, who starred at Euro 2024, has been heavily linked with an Athletic Club exit and reports suggest he is eager to remain in Spain, despite interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

Barcelona are currently leading the race for his signature and club president Joan Laporta recently admitted that the Blaugrana are able to fund a move for Williams this summer.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have now revealed that Barca have asked Williams’ agent to respond to their latest contract offer.

Barcelona sporting director Deco met with Williams’ representatives last week and presented a formal offer for the Spain winger. As per Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish giants “expect” an answer within the next few days.

Williams is currently on holiday following his exploits at the European Championship, but Barcelona are hoping to be given the green light soon as they look to finalise Hansi Flick’s squad for the upcoming season.

Dani Olmo: Barcelona’s alternative

If Williams turns down Barcelona’s contract proposal, they will immediately shift their focus to signing RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo.

The 26-year-old spent time in Barca’s academy during his youth and the Spanish giants have already sent a formal offer to his representatives.

Barcelona are yet to make their first signing of the summer, although they have seen six players depart.

Chadi Riad, Marc Guiu and Estanis Pedrola have been sold to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Sampdoria respectively, while Sergino Dest has joined PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer. In addition, Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto have both left as free agents.
