Merino to Arsenal STALLS with Gunners 'unwilling' to match asking price
Arsenal are currently unwilling to match Real Sociedad’s €35 million asking price for Mikel Merino, as per reports in Spain.
The 28-year-old is eager to join Mikel Arteta’s side and talks are ongoing between the two clubs, but the move has seemingly stalled in recent days.
Arsenal are reportedly yet to submit a formal offer for Merino and although they have agreed personal terms with the Spain international, the move is in some doubt.

According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, Real Sociedad value Merino at €35m, while Arsenal are aiming to pay closer to €25m for the ex-Newcastle United midfielder.
In addition, the Gunners reportedly want to spread any transfer fee over three years, whereas Sociedad want money paid up front.
Furthermore, Spanish outlet El Diario Vasco (via London World) have revealed that Arsenal are “unwilling” to pay €35m for Merino.

The Spaniard has just one year left on his current Real Sociedad contract and there are reportedly fears that the Gunners could walk away from the deal unless Merino’s price tag is reduced.
Merino made 45 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists. He also featured in all of Spain’s games at Euro 2024, while he netted the winner during the 2-1 victory over Germany in the quarter-finals.
Arsenal's transfer business
So far this summer, Arsenal have signed Italy international Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for €45 million, while they made David Raya’s loan move to the club permanent after an impressive 2023-24 campaign.
They remain interested in signing a new forward, although Benjamin Sesko has renewed his contract at RB Leipzig and Nico Williams looks set to stay at Athletic Club after being handed the No.10 shirt.
Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen remain targets, but it remains to be seen if Arsenal are able to fund a move for either player before the window shuts.
