Speculation surrounding the Brazilian's future has been rampant for months. One of the best midfielders in the Premier League, Guimaraes is a sought-after commodity.

The 26-year-old has been the subject of interest from PSG, Man City and Arsenal, though there were no concrete offers for him this summer. Previously, Guimaraes had a release clause worth north of €100 million, which made him very expensive.

Additionally, Newcastle have no intention of letting their star midfielder depart, so clubs refrained from making a move, knowing full well that the Magpies would have demanded a sizeable fee, potentially in line with his expired release clause.

Nevertheless, speculation has continued, with a fresh report on Saturday by an Arsenal 'insider' claiming that the Gunners were preparing a cash plus Aaron Ramsdale offer for the Brazilian.

Guimaraes confirms Newcastle stay

However, Guimaraes has now taken to social media to once and for all squash the rumour-mongering on his future. After captaining Newcastle for the first time in a friendly defeat to Yokohama F. Marinos, he announced that he intends to stay this summer.

"I'm very happy to be starting another season with this club that has done so much for me since my first day here. I'm glad to be back and more prepared than ever to have a brilliant season and to help Newcastle reach the highest possible position!"

"Another dream has come true! Being the captain of this team is everything I've always dreamed of but never imagined! We're in this together, and I'm sure I'll be more dedicated than ever to this badge."

Guimaraes is still under contract with Newcastle until 2028, though renewed speculation surrounding a potential transfer is sure to return next summer.
