Gallagher, 24, made 50 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea during the 2023-24 season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists.

However, the England midfielder will leave Chelsea after a 16-year association with the west London club.

Gallagher is yet to feature for the Blues during pre-season due to his participation at the 2024 European Championship, and he will join Atletico this week.

Samu Omorodion to Chelsea?

While Gallagher will join Atletico Madrid, Chelsea will sign Samu Omorodion from the Spanish giants.

The Spain U21 international spent last season on loan at Alaves and he will leave Atleti without playing a single game for the club.

Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez is expected to replace Omorodion at the Wanda Metropolitano, with Pep Guardiola’s side accepting Atleti’s offer of an initial €75m, plus a further €20m in add-ons.

Omorodion will become Chelsea’s eighth summer signing, following the arrivals of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo.

He will compete with Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku for a starting berth under Enzo Maresca, with fellow strikers Romelu Lukaku and Armando Broja both expected to leave Chelsea on permanent deals before the summer window ends.
