Chelsea's recruitment has come under heavy fire again and Jamie Carragher may have just launched the most scathing tirade yet.

The Blues are on the verge of sealing another signing, with former loanee Joao Felix set to re-join Chelsea on a permanent deal worth around €50 million.

Just last week, Chelsea brought in Pedro Neto from Wolves for €63m. The signings made this summer have hit double digits and Victor Osimhen - or another striker - goalkeeper Mike Penders and Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Mec may all yet be signed before Deadline Day.

It has been another summer of madness at Stamford Bridge, with coach Enzo Maresca dealing with a bloated squad of over 40 players and major friction created by the sheer numbers at his disposal.

Fan favourites Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah are being forced out as are the likes of Ben Chilwell, Romelu Lukaku and Raheem Sterling and they are anything but happy about it.

Carragher blasts Chelsea

This was supposed to be the summer when Chelsea finally got their ducks in a row recruitment-wise, but it has been the complete opposite once again.

Jamie Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, took no prisoners when discussing the Blues' transfer business. "Chelsea have just got to stop buying players. And players have got to stop signing for Chelsea. I don't know why as a player you'd look at that Chelsea project - why would you sign?

"The only reason why you might sign is your agent saying 'we are getting a seven-year deal on big money. That's guaranteed money for seven years.' You know what I would say? Back yourself as a player and sign a four-year deal at a proper club.

"Back yourself to do well and when you're due for a renewal, your money goes up anyway. You're signing Joao Felix. Tell me where he's going to play. They signed Neto a week ago. Where's he going to play if you've already got Cole Palmer?

"Every football team I played in, there were seven or eight players who knew they were playing every week. Then you've got six or seven players fighting for three positions and then another six or seven players who know they're squad players. That's a healthy squad."
