De Ligt to Man Utd and five transfers that can happen this week
We are in another week of the transfer window and things are really starting to heat up.
With Euro 2024 done and dusted, players have returned to their respective sides to either prepare for the campaign ahead or consider offers on the table from other clubs.
For some, it’s a difficult choice, while others are more than glad to leave. But what lies ahead in the immediate future for some players, who have had bids accepted for their services and personal terms agreed upon?
Here are five notable transfers that could be concluded this week.

Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid
Beginning with the biggest - and most controversial - transfer. Conor Gallagher is a lifelong Chelsea player. He is emblematic of the club and appreciated by the fans as a hardworking loyal Blue. But the hierarchy decided that he must be shipped on as they try and bring in pure profit.
Tottenham registered an interest in the 24-year-old but it was Atletico Madrid that pushed for the move and eventually got it. They gave Gallagher a deadline and Sky Sports reported that he only agreed to make move an hour before the deadline.
The transfer is thought to be worth €40 million on a five-year deal that would keep him in Madrid until 2029. There have been suggestions that the deal isn't fully wrapped up and we await a formal announcement from Atletico.
Martin Zubimendi to Liverpool
Liverpool are still awaiting a decision from Martin Zubimendi, who has not made his mind up about joining the Anfield club.
The Reds remain the only Premier League club yet to make a move in the transfer market but the hope is to secure the services of the Real Sociedad midfielder.
The Times reportsthat the 25-year-old deliberating over the possibility of leaving his boyhood club, Real Sociedad, where he has been since joining their academy at the age of 12.
Mikel Merino to Arsenal
The uncertainty surrounding Mikel Merino's future seems to be coming to an end. Reports suggest the matter of moving to Arsenal is nothing more than a formality for the Real Sociedad midfielder, while others, such as The Athletic, say the club are looking at a number of options.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is eager to bring the 28-year-old to the Emirates, and partner in a double pivot with Declan Rice for the new season.
Personal terms won’t be a problem as FootballTransfers reported and Arsenal's primary midfield target could potentially join for a transfer fee of up to €35m.
Teun Koopmeiners to Juventus
It's been an arduous saga but Sportitalia reports Juventus and Atalanta had a positive meeting regarding Teun Koopmeiners, so we could be at the final stages.
The deal is thought to be €60m than €55m including add-ons, opening the door for Matt O’Riley of Celtic to join Gian Piero Gasperini's side.
It's thought Atalanta were furious at the behaviour of the Bianconeri and the player, who refused to participate in training in a bid to force the move.
But transfer guru Alfredo Pedulla reports that the clubs met to smooth things over. Atalanta will then reinvest circa €28m in signing Denmark international O’Riley from Celtic.
Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt to Man Utd
Manchester United could conclude the signing of Bayern Munich's right-back Noussair Mazraoui, having agreed on a transfer fee ranging between £15 million and £20 million, reports The Guardian. - and a medical is set for today.
Initially, Mazraoui was expected to join the Hammers but they couldn’t agree terms They are now looking at Wan-Bissaka, though the two clubs still need to settle on a price.
Man Utd had tabled a joint offer for Matthijs de Ligt and Mazraoui, according to David Ornstein, but it was turned down.
Over the weekend, a new offer was made in separate transactions for the pair, who are now heading to Old Trafford to conclude their move from Bayern Munich.
