Chelsea are poised to complete the shock transfer of Deivid Washington to Strasbourg on Deadline Day.

Washington was one of the prospects snapped up by the Stamford Bridge club in their massive splurge a year ago, but despite arriving amid significant hype, the 19-year-old only managed to play 25 minutes of first-team football all season.

Chelsea spent big on him, splashing out €16m on the striker, yet he has offered little return for that money, despite scoring five goals in the Premier League 2.

With the Stamford Bridge club seeking to move players on before the deadline, they have struck an agreement with sister club Strasbourg, whereby the Ligue 1 team will spend €21m on the forward, according to L’Equipe, thereby offering a substantial profit to the Blues on someone who would not have threatened their first team.

Deivid Washington’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at just €5.7m, highlighting just how good a deal this is for Chelsea as they seek to balance their books.

The BBC reports that the deal is not yet completed, but it stands a strong chance of being pushed through.

Washington, meanwhile, still has six years left on his deal at Stamford Bridge, where there is a strong youth policy in place.

This has been replicated and even exaggerated with Strasbourg, who have started the season off with a win and a draw under new head coach Liam Rosenior.

Racing do not have a starting outfield player in their ranks over the age of 22.

Last season, senior pros complained about the transfer policy of the club and have since been moved on, though the supporters of the Ligue 1 outfit still hold regular protests against the ownership of BlueCo, which will likely only increase given the nature of the Deivid Washington deal.
