Manchester United have lost four more injured players as Erik ten Hag’s pre-season injury nightmare goes from bad to worse.

Ten Hag was forced to substitute three players due to injury as Man Utd were thrashed 3-0 by Liverpool in their pre-season clash on Saturday.

Youngster Will Fish was forced off with his leg in a brace after a bad challenge from Liverpool’s Harvey Blair.

Centre backs Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof were also substituted at half time due to physical problems, while Harry Maguire did not play at all due to injury.

What did Ten Hag say?

“Always, we have to see what has gone on. The assessment, of course, with Will Fish is it’s an impact injury,” Ten Hag said.

“We also had to sub Jonny Evans at half-time because he was ill. Victor Lindelof [was] a precaution. So, yeah, there are some injuries, but we have to see how bad it will be.

“Pre-season is always tough. But, yeah, Harry Maguire, as a precaution, we leave him out. And we had, of course, some injuries, but that is part of club football. We have to develop our team and make some good progression.”

The losses of Fish, Evans, Lindelof and Maguire is the last thing that Ten Hag needs in a pre season full of injuries, especially in defence.

New €70 million summer signing Leny Yoro is out for three months after suffering a foot injury during the pre-season friendly against Arsenal on July 28.

In the same game, Rasmus Hojlund also suffered a hamstring injury that will rule him out for six weeks.

With the Premier League season starting in 12 days, this is not ideal preparation for Ten Hag, who is under heavy pressure to begin the campaign well.

Ten Hag risks the sack if Man Utd don’t start the 2024-25 season well after narrowly avoiding the axe last term.

United finished eighth in the Premier League last season and were knocked out of Europe before Christmas but Ten Hag saved his job by winning the FA Cup final against Man City.
