Fabrizio Romano has shot down talk that Manchester United will look to sign Jarrad Branthwaite and Ben Chilwell before the end of the summer transfer window.

United had made Branthwaite their top centre back target at the start of the summer, spending much of the transfer window trying to bring in the youngsters from Everton.

United had two offers rejected for the defender in June and July, with Everton demanding a fee of €76-82 million to sell their player.

United considered this asking price too high and instead focused on other targets, bringing in Leny Yoro from Lille and Mathijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.

However, there have been persistent reports that United will try to sign a third centre back before the end of this month.

Romano believes it is unlikely that man will be Branthwaite, though, as his price is just far too expensive.

Likewise, the Italian transfer journalist does not believe that United will try to sign Chilwell.

Chilwell is available for sale at Chelsea after falling down the pecking order and falling out with manager Enzo Maresca.

Maresca’s recent comments in which he suggested that Chilwell was not of the quality required to play at left-back has infuriated the England star.

As a result, Chilwell is now looking to quit the club as he does not want to play for a manager who does not value him.

There have been reports that Chilwell has been offered to Man Utd.

According to the Daily Mail, Man Utd are considering making a bid for Chilwell in an attempt to solve their own left back crisis after Luke Shaw suffered another injury.

But Romano says that Chilwell is not in Man Utd’s plans.

Man Utd made a positive start to the new Premier League season as they beat Fulham 1-0 on Friday.

Joshua Zirkzee scored the only goal of the game as a substitute on his Premier League debut, having signed from Bologna this summer.
