Man Utd rekindle interest in €60m England international

Manchester United could look to reignite their interest in Brentford striker Ivan Toney, according to reports.

The Red Devils saw a double injury blow for Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro during their pre-season tour of the States.

Their €62 million centre-back Yoro is believed to be sidelined for three months after suffering a broken metatarsal during his side's game with Arsenal in California last weekend.

Meanwhile, Hojlund is set to miss six weeks after sustaining a hamstring problem. The Dane, who netted 14 times in his inaugural campaign at Old Trafford, was the only out-and-out centre-forward for Man Utd last season.

Marcus Rashford also picked up an injury during Man Utd's pre-season win over Real Betis, though it's not clear how long the attacker will be out of action.

Man Utd brought in Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna to bolster their frontline. But the club feel that they need to bring in more firepower, with The Telegraph reporting that Erik ten Hag is keen on buying another striker this summer.

The publication goes on to say that Toney is back on the club's radar as just one of few names that they are considering.

The England international has just one year left on his contract with the Bees, who are hoping to get a fee of around £50m for the 28-year-old.

Toney scored four goals and provided two assists in 17 Premier League matches last season - but missed the first half of the campaign due to a football ban after pleading guilty to over 200 betting charges.

Brentford boss Frank recently issued a defiant message when asked about Toney’s future at the club.

“He’s a Brentford player and I would love him to stay. That would give me a very positive challenge,” the Dane told Sky Sports.

“But I haven’t met a coach who doesn’t want as many good players as possible. Right now, Ivan is a Brentford player. I know he’s enjoying his well-deserved time off after his time with England.

“I would be more than happy if he stayed with us. He’s a goalscorer and that’s very good to have in your team so if you want to buy him, it’s expensive.”
