Toney talks

Man Utd are not interested in signing Ivan Toney, according to Sky Sports Deutschland transfer news specialist Florian Plettenberg.

Taking to X, he reports: “Told again that Manchester United are currently not considering to sign Ivan Toney until Deadline Day.

“No approach is planned yet. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee should play regularly.

“The 28-year-old striker from Brentford is one to watch with many requests and a strong interest from Saudi Arabia.”

The Athletic confirms that Al-Ahli are interested in the player, but nothing is agreed in terms of a transfer fee.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has hinted a transfer looks likely.

“He has been one of our best players — if not our best player — over a long spell,” he said. “All the top players in the Premier League, one day they will leave the club and someone else needs to step up and do well.”

McTominay says yes to Napoli

Scott McTominay has agreed personal terms to move to Napoli, Corriere dello Sport has confirmed, yet there is a strong push from Fulham to make a last-ditch move for the Scotland international.

McTominay is reported to have given the thumbs up to a contract with the Serie A giants, but there is no agreement in place with Man Utd yet.

Sky Sports reports that Fulham are making a renewed push for the player.

“Fulham have re-opened talks with Manchester United over signing of Scott McTominay. Fulham had two bids rejected and weren’t expected to go back in unless United were willing to negotiate on asking price. Fulham now expected to make improved offer if talks go positively,” Dharmesh Sheth reports on X.

Romano tips two to leave Man Utd

Fabrizio Romano says that Scott McTominay is indeed favourite to leave Man Utd this summer, with Facundo Pellistri also destined to depart Old Trafford, with a move to Panathinaikos lined up.

“We know Man Utd want to add at least one more player – maybe two,” Romano says.

“The situation of Manuel Ugarte, who is waiting for Man Utd, is that there is still no breakthrough in talks this weekend. If they can sell one midfielder or if they can reduce the asking price from PSG, the deal can be done.

“McTominay could leave Man Utd before the end of the summer transfer market but they want something around £30m.”

Romano’s information runs contrary to the reports in Italy.

He says: “Napoli were in London this week and had conversations with Man Utd for McTominay but they were thinking of a loan with a buy clause. Man Utd have been very clear: they want £30m.

“Fulham had two bids rejected but the interest, especially the manager Marco Silva, is still very strong. They’re still in conversations.

“Casemiro was made available on the market. One of the big changes was the Al-Ettihad president resigned. Everything changed and they didn’t move for Casemiro, who it now seems is staying and McTominay is the one who will go. But Man Utd will not accept a loan move.

“Pellistri is leaving Manchester United on a permanent deal to Panathinaikos. There are still a few things to be agreed but the deal is in its final stages. The manager is pushing a lot. That’s an important factor.”

Neville sends Ten Hag warning

Gary Neville was concerned with what he saw from Manchester United against Fulham on Friday, despite Joshua Zirkzee’s goal giving the Red Devils a 1-0 win.

“On reflection, it is the same story. Winning was very important, they are still finding that right balance in the team, they have new players - they changed the centre-back partnership again in the game, which is just a little bit of a worry - Erik ten Hag said it was just precautionary with Harry Maguire and it was not an injury, but it is something they just have to monitor and to try and keep the players fit,” he said on the Gary Neville podcast.

“I do not think we can be sat here in October and Ten Hag is talking about excuses and injuries, as that cannot happen again this year. If you have injuries in one season that can be deemed unlucky, but if you have injuries in a second season, that is not unlucky. It is what you are, it is your medical staff, preparation, sports scientists, all those things come into question when you get repetitive injuries.”
