Liverpool ‘GO BIG’ on ‘SPECIAL’ signing for Arne Slot – Fabrizio Romano

Liverpool are ready to do everything in their power to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, Fabrizio Romano says.
FootballTransfers first revealed the Anfield club’s interest in Zubimendi in February, and now with new manager Arne Slot in place to replace Jurgen Klopp, the Reds are lining up the Spain midfielder for the Dutchman.
Romano caught up with the news on his YouTube channel and explained the state of play.

“Martin Zubimendi: Liverpool are on him,” he explained.
“It would be a special signing. He’s a top, top player. His brain is different. We saw the quality in the Champions League but also with the Spanish national team. His release clause is €60m, taxes included, so it’s an expensive deal.
“Liverpool want to go very big on this one. They feel they can reach an agreement with Real Sociedad or trigger the release clause. So Liverpool are very optimistic. Now working on the player side.”
Liverpool aiming to succeed where Arsenal and Barca failed
Romano explained, however, that Liverpool faced a difficult challenge in separating Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, where he had played his entire career. Indeed, he was born in San Sebastian and he has been with La Real since 2011.
“Many clubs have tried to convince Zubimendi in recent years – Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal. Many clubs have spoken to the player. He wasn’t keen on the move but now Liverpool are going very big. They’re using their abilities to persuade the player to accept their contract proposal,” Romano stated.
Zubimendi was particularly influential for Spain at Euro 2024, turning in a strong display in midfield when he replaced the injured Rodri at half-time in the final of the competition against England.
He has been a centrepiece for Real Sociedad, meanwhile, for the last four years and is closing in on 200 appearances for the LaLiga side, dictating their play from the middle of the park.
