Eddie Howe is looking for a right-sided centre-back as a priority position and his side’s recruitment staff were revealed to have been in discussions with England international Guehi for some time.

The defender is valued at £60 million by Palace and has just two years in his deal at Selhurst Park.

But Newcastle are one of several clubs who admire Guehi and consequently, Palace are firmly looking at Lacroix this summer as a possible replacement.

The Wolfsburg centre-back previously played under head coach Oliver Glasner during their time together at the Volkswagen Arena in the 2020/21 season and now there is an ambition to secure his signature if Guehi leaves.

Glasner brought Lacroix from Sochaux in Ligue 2 and would be eager to work with the 24-year-old again.

Palace are looking to land a spot in Europe next season and believe the addition of Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers in January is a huge boost in their quest.

We are told that the Eagles value the 20-year-old at £100m as he’s viewed by the club as potentially greater than Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo, both of which left for more.

Wharton is contracted to Palace until 2029 and is happy at the side where he is offered regular game time.
