With the summer transfer window's end fast approaching, clubs and agents work hard to ensure their clients and players start the new season in the best possible way.

Indeed, for clubs, this period is vital. Should they get it wrong and fail to strengthen their squads, then they could face fan unrest and drop down the league.

For the players themselves, meanwhile, it could be a time of opportunity, with the prospect of a move to a bigger club, increased playing time, or a step up in competition. Or, simply, a distraction.

Here FootballTransfers goes through five deals that could be finalised - and even announced - today.

Manuel Ugarte to Man Utd

Manuel Ugarte is edging closer to a move to Manchester United with an announcement forthcoming. The Transfers Podcast, hosted by Duncan Castles, were the first to reveal that they have finally reached an agreement with PSG.

We understood Man Utd will pay an initial up-front fee of €50 million, plus an additional €10m in variables, with the payment structure agreed.

Ugarte had his Man Utd medical and he will ahead of becoming a fully-fledged Red Devils player.

The Uruguay international only joined PSG last summer, but he departed after making 37 appearances during his debut campaign at the Parc des Princes.

The French outfit had remained staunch in their €60 million valuation, however, a breakthrough was achieved between the two clubs and Ugarte has since travelled to Manchester.

The Telegraph reported on Thursday that the move was "all on track."

Victor Osimhen to Chelsea

It's been a long-running saga but Fabrizio Romano had suggested that Chelsea will have a free run to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen before the summer transfer window shuts.

Chelsea have outlasted the likes of PSG in Arsenal in maintaining an interest in Osimhen, whose employers have successfully scared off prospective buyers. All these clubs have been told that they must meet the €130 million in the 25-year-old Nigeria international’s release clause to do a deal.

Napoli could relent on this figure due to their need to sell the striker before the transfer deadline and the Blues are in talks with him.

But they are not the only club taking an interest: Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ahli are in talks with the forward too.

Romano, though, claims that the possibility of a move to the Middle East only opens up if a Chelsea deal falls through.

FootballItalia have reported on Deadline Day that Al-Ahli can only sign one between Osimhen and Ivan Toney while it's thought that the Saudi Pro League club have agreed a deal with Napoli worth €80m including add-ons.

Personal terms are also agreed worth €40m per season, plus a decisive release clause for well under €100m.

Scott McTominay to Napoli

Napoli have basically wrapped up a deal to sign Man Utd midfielder Scott McTominay, according to Ornstein, who has reported that Napoli will pay around €30 million.

The 27-year-old agreed personal terms but an agreement between the two clubs has been reached and he has since travelled to Naples.

McTominay has been with Man Utd throughout his career, having graduated from the club's academy. His goals proved vital last season but Erik ten Hag's side wanted to upgrade him for Manuel Ugarte.

Raheem Sterling to Man Utd

Chelsea have been told that Jadon Sancho is open to a move to Stamford Bridge in a deadline-beating transfer, but if they are to land the Man Utd winger, they will first have to solve an €83 million (£70m) problem with Raheem Sterling.

Fabrizio Romano says that Sancho is willing to talk with the Blues over a potential deal, though it appears for any serious negotiations to take place, Sterling would have to agree to leave.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca recently said that if Sterling stays, he faces the prospect of no minutes.

"I don't know what happens when the window closes if they are still here," he said via BBC Sport. The ones who will get minutes are the ones I think can help us.

"Raheem is a fantastic guy who has trained very well. Every manager has a different idea and he is the kind of winger that is not one that I like. History and numbers speak for Raheem. He knows exactly what he needs to do.

"The rest are training apart, they are not going to get minutes. I have been clear and honest with them."

A spectacular swap deal has been rumoured between the clubs in recent days, and while this still appears to be a long shot, the stance of the former Borussia Dortmund star opens up the possibility.

Arne Engels to Celtic

Two weeks ago FootballTransfers revealed that Celtic had made Augsburg wonderkid Arne Engels one of their top targets this summer.

The Scottish Premiership champions have been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in goalkeepers Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel as well as Paulo Bernardo from Benfica, among others.

Now Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has stated that the youngster's move to Celtic is fully agreed pending a medical. He tweeted: "Total agreement between Augsburg and Celtic has been reached now! CEO Michael Nicholson and FCA boss Michael Stroll have finalized the deal today as sources from UK confirm.

"FCA will receive €13m in total and guaranteed. 20 % sell-on clause for FCA. Medical booked for Friday! 20 y/o midfielder was the desired."
