Man Utd in direct PSG contact over Sancho deal

PSG have had direct talks with Manchester United over a deal for Jadon Sancho, with these discussions taking place during the negotiations over midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

While there have been conversations with United over a transfer fee, PSG have some reservations over Sancho's application as a player and whether he would work well in a squad coached by Luis Enrique.

“For Sancho to fulfil what he could fulfil, it has to be elsewhere, and PSG is a great opportunity for him.

“But if you go to PSG and you're playing for Luis Enrique, it would be up to him to adapt in that extra way that he still hasn't quite done.

“His absolute best football's been played for one club in one particular set of circumstances. And when he's been at Manchester United or England, he hasn't quite been at the same level. PSG would be a great opportunity for him,” Sunday Times football correspondent Jonathan Northcroft told The Transfers Podcast.

PSG, meanwhile, still prefer Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in that position but are not confident of landing the Georgia international star.

Solanke set for Tottenham

The Transfers Podcast exclusively revealed on FootballTransfers that Dominic Solanke’s move to Tottenham had been given the green light.

Further details of the deal have emerged, with Duncan Castles giving his insight on the transfer and why Bournemouth decided to sell.

“Bournemouth realised that this was probably an opportune moment to sell Solanke because it would be difficult to prevent him from moving to a club higher in football’s pecking order if a substantial fee was agreement. And he’s just delivered – by some margin – the best season of his career, scoring 19 goals, the same return as Ollie Watkins and the fourth-highest in the league,” he said.

“Liverpool will benefit from this transfer. They sold Solanke to Bournemouth back in 2019 for an initial £19m and I understand £5m of bonuses, which have already been achieved.

“Included in that transfer agreement was a 20% sell-on clause, i.e. 20% of the profit that Bournemouth make on the deal, which should be equal to about £6m on the guaranteed fee and more on potential bonuses.”

Are Chelsea crazy, clever or crazy stupid?

Chelsea’s transfer policy has once again come under the microscope as they seek to complete a double deal that will see Samu Omorodion move to Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid with Conor Gallagher going in the opposite direction.

Omorodion has already agreed terms with the Blues and is considered to be a player with the “potential to be a top Premier League player” but needs to be developed in the right context.

With 33 players on the club’s pre-season tour, Castles revealed he has spoken to one sporting director who branded Chelsea “either crazy, clever or crazy stupid”.

Northcroft replied: “It’s another summer of collecting potential and collecting talent, then chucking people out the door and starting again.

“What happens now? How do you make sense of this squad? How do these players develop?”

“That’s the thing. For talent to develop, it needs stability and there needs to be a play, an individualised plan for a player, and there needs to be players on the pitch who are around them who are secure in their roles and positions who can help younger players learn the ropes.

“None of that exists at Chelsea. It didn’t exist last season. You’re watching a whole group of players trying to develop together at the same time.

“Only Cole Palmer was able to come in and do it straight away.

“Nicholas Jackson spent the whole season almost trying to learn how to score and he was kind of getting the hang of it by the end of the year. Now what happens to his development?”
