OFFICIAL: Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana joins Goztepe on loan

Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana has officially completed a loan move to Turkish club Goztepe SK.

The Ivorian was expected to join Greek side AEK Athens, but the deal collapsed at the last minute and he has now joined Goztepe on a season-long loan.

The move includes a recall clause in January, which Chelsea can activate if they want Fofana to return to the club, while Goztepe reportedly have the option to sign him permanently next summer.

Chelsea signed Fofana from Molde for €12 million in 2023 and he has made four first-team appearances for the club since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, he was loaned out to both Union Berlin and Burnley last season, spending six months at each club.

The 21-year-old scored two goals in 17 appearances for the former, and he fared slightly better for the latter, notching four goals in 15 Premier League games.

Chelsea’s summer transfer business

Fofana is the 41st player to leave Chelsea this summer, with the club eager to offload a host of players following Enzo Maresca’s arrival.

Conor Gallagher and Romelu Lukaku were among the players to depart on permanent deals, while Kepa Arrizabalaga, Trevoh Chalobah and Andrey Santos have all been loaned out for the 2024-25 campaign.

In addition, the Blues also spent big in the market in a bid to bolster Maresca’s first-team squad.

Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Marc Guiu and Omari Kellyman were among the players to join Chelsea this summer, while Jadon Sancho arrived on an initial loan deal from Manchester United.

Furthermore, Chelsea also agreed deals for both Estevao Willian and Mike Penders to join the club in 2025.

The Blues have picked up four points from their opening three Premier League matches so far this season, while they qualified for the Europa Conference League after beating Servette in a two-legged playoff.
