Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has already made a last impression on his Old Trafford teammates in the club canteen.

Zirkzee has had a mixed start to life at Old Trafford following a €42.5 million transfer from Bologna in the summer, having scored on debut against Fulham but not in six appearances since.

With Rasmus Hojlund close to coming back from injury, there are doubts over how much playing time the 23-year-old will get in the weeks ahead.

He was relatively subdued in the midweek Europa League draw against Twente, but even if his display in that clash was not cause for discussion, the former Bayern Munich youth has admitted that his eating habits are.

Speaking to ViaPlay Sport in the Netherlands, he admitted that his Man Utd colleagues have been taken aback by one aspect of his lifestyle.

Asked what the differences are between Bologna and Manchester, he replied: “It’s great. Compared to Bologna, it’s greyer and there’s a bit more rain.

“The English breakfast hasn’t really gone down well with me yet. A few players were a bit shocked that I just had a chicken sandwich in the morning.”

Premier League was never my dream, Zirkzee admits

Zirkzee, meanwhile, admits that playing with Manchester United or even necessarily in the Premier League was a target of his.

“To be honest, it wasn’t,” he said. “I’ve always watched it, but I didn’t always say in the past: ‘I want to play in the Premier League.’

“But at such a big club, that’s what I want. It was more the club that attracted me. Not the Premier League, if I’m honest.”

Zirkzee, whose Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has leapt to €35.3m since moving to Old Trafford, will go hunting his second Manchester United goal on Sunday, when Erik ten Hag’s side host Tottenham in a Premier League clash that promises to be pivotal for the Red Devils’ season.
