The Dutchman has won a domestic trophy in each of his two full seasons at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils are currently 12th in the Premier League table and they have only won six of their last 18 league matches.

Simone Inzaghi, Gareth Southgate and Ruud van Nistelrooy are among the contenders to replace Ten Hag, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to make a decision on his future when Premier League action pauses for the October internationals.

Man Utd decided to trigger the one-year extension option in Ten Hag’s contract after their FA Cup triumph in May, and that decision means they will owe the Dutchman even more money if he is sacked.

As per GOAL, it will cost Man Utd a whopping £17.5 million to sack Ten Hag now. By comparison, they would’ve been forced to pay the Dutchman £10m if they had opted to get rid of him before his contract was extended.

Erik ten Hag responds to Man Utd sack rumours

After the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Ten Hag was asked whether he believes he could be sacked.

“I am not thinking about this,” Ten Hag replied. “We all made in the summer the decision to stay together, as an ownership, a leadership group.

“Also we made the decision from a clear review of what we have to improve and how we want to construct a squad. But we knew it will take some time, how the window went, some players late in like [Manuel] Ugarte.

“Also we have to make some improvement in the organisation, we still have some injuries, we need some time. We are all on one page or in one boat together, the ownership, the staff and the players as well. I don’t have that concern.”
