'Highly regarded' Man Utd transfer guru set to leave - Ornstein

Manchester United deputy football director Andy O'Boyle is set to leave the club, according to David Ornstein.

Following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment in Man Utd, plenty of changes have been wrought. The club's sporting hierarchy was restructured with CEO Richard Arnold and then football director John Murtough departing.

Omar Berrada joined from Man City to replace Arnold, while Jason Wilcox became the club's new technical director after being poached from Southampton. Following a lengthy saga, Newcastle chief Dan Ashworth was hired as sporting director and former Chelsea man Christopher Vivell was appointed as interim head of recruitment.

With the first transfer window under INEOS in the books, Ratcliffe and company are set to make more sweeping changes, with 'highly regarded' Andy O'Boyle now also set to depart Old Trafford.

O'Boyle to leave

At least that is according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, who reports that O'Boyle will leave Man Utd after two years (back) at the club in which he served as deputy football director. Boyle had also spent time at United prior to his current position.

O'Boyle was re-hired in 2022 after a stint working with the Premier League. His role was to aid Murtough in improving the Man Utd men's, women's and academy teams.

He previously worked for Liverpool and England's U21 as well and, according to Ornstein, "arrived with a strong reputation across the industry." The journalist also reports that O'Boyle had a significant say in this summer's transfer business as he assumed greater responsibilities following Murtough's exit in April.

After aiding Sir Dave Brailsford in rebuilding the Man Utd hierarchy, O'Boyle himself now looks set to fall victim to Ratcliffe's revolution. He will certainly be in demand following his departure.
