Chelsea could allow Mykhailo Mudryk to leave the club during the January transfer window, with a potential suitor already having emerged for the Ukraine international star.

Mudryk arrived at Chelsea in a deal worth €70 million in January 2023, beating Arsenal to the Shakhtar Donetsk player.

Having joined for such a huge fee on a deal that runs until 2031, there was a great deal of expectation around what the 23-year-old might produce for the Stamford Bridge outfit, yet he has come up dramatically short of expectations.

In 62 Chelsea appearances, he has scored seven goals and created five more – a poor return for a player bought for such a lavish fee.

While some have asked for patience for the winger, his opportunities appear to be running short and TeamTalk now reports that the Stamford Bridge side are open to selling Mudryk during the January transfer window as they seek to reduce the size of their squad.

Who wants to sign Mudryk?

Although Bayern Munich are still interested in Mudryk, their interest is said to have diminished following the departure of Thomas Tuchel.

Instead, a major ally of Mudryk in the form of Roberto De Zerbi wants to take him to Marseille.

The Italian previously tipped the attacker as potentially becoming the best player in the world.

I know the value of Mudryk. He has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or.

“Mudryk can win the Ballon d’Or in the future,” De Zerbi, speaking as Brighton manager in 2022, said.

“I know the value of Mudryk. He has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or.”

A move to Marseille might not be the relief that Mudryk is looking for. Arguably OM's best player in the early weeks of the season has been left-winger Luis Henrique, who he would come into direct competition for a starting place with. Given the current form of the two, there is no guarantee the Ukrainian would come out on top, despite De Zerbi being a major supporter of his.

Since joining Chelsea, Mudryk has seen his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) rise to €39.8m, though it has fluctuated significantly during his time with the club.

A loan deal for Mudryk is likeliest during the January transfer window, when Chelsea will also try to offload Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile and Ben Chilwell.
