Ruben Amorim may be about to be named Manchester United’s next manager, but not all supporters are confident that he is the right man to replace Erik ten Hag at the Old Trafford helm.

Jose Mourinho might say the Sporting CP boss is capable of achieving great things anywhere, but having been stung by the experience of Ten Hag, who was much-hyped because of the work he had done with Ajax, United fans are more cautious.

Indeed, speaking on The Overlap, one gave a brilliant description of the situation using the hit video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as inspiration.

“Ruben Amorim, I just feel like that GTA meme ‘ah s***, here we go again. Every single time with United,” Adam McKola told Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes.

“I’m a little bit gutted we sacked the manager. It was the right decision, he had to be sacked. This season, my head went after the Spurs game. Whilst it’s kind of a big game, you expect to beat Spurs no matter what the scenario is. The performance was abysmal.

“And you look at some of the things Ten Hag said after that – ‘I’m not counting the Spurs game because the Bruno red card was reversed.’ We were c*** before he got sent off, so how does that red card have any impact. Then talking about injuries when most of our players are back. He just looked like a manager who knew his time is up.

“I’m sure after Ruben wins a few games, I’ll be back on the ’21 is coming’ train but I just hope Amorim – as much as a tactician as he may be – I hope he has the personality and the character.”

Whoever takes charge will need to strike up a positive relationship with the supporters, with Jurgen Klopp’s influence at Liverpool the ideal template.

“Ten Hag was a good coach, Van Gaal was a good coach, Mourinho was a good coach. But the personality wasn’t the right one. And you feel that manager’s are almost having to be like politicians these days, managing the players, managing the fans. We really need a connection with the fanbase, like Klopp was with Liverpool,” McKola added.

Amorim is expected to be named as Man Utd boss imminently, although talks are still ongoing with details of his contract being finalised.
