Manchester United are increasingly keen on signing Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with the Canada international, who will become a free agent at the end of the season and will, therefore, be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January.

According to Sky Sport Deutschland, however, Man Utd are increasingly big pretenders in the fight to sign Davies, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €40.3 million.

The left-back berth has long been a problem at Old Trafford, with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia spending long periods on the sidelines since the beginning of last season.

Florian Plettenberg has confirmed that Davies is, therefore, an increasingly hot track at Man Utd.

Taking to X, he confirmed: “Manchester United’s interest in Alphonso Davies is becoming more concrete.

“Man Utd have been gathering extensive information on Davies for several days. The 23-year-old would be a desired transfer for the vacant left-back position, as recently revealed.

“In recent months, Manchester United have already made an informal inquiry with the player’s camp.

“At present, there are no new talks about a contract extension with FC Bayern. Davies could leave the club as a free agent next summer.”

January transfer possible?

What is not clear is whether United are interested in brokering a deal for the January transfer window, which would give them the advantage of having a world-class option in the role at the earliest possible opportunity.

This may also be an attractive proposition for Bayern given that they face losing a fortune on the player should he leave as a free agent, as seems increasingly likely.

Of course, this could prompt action from Real Madrid, who have already seen United sweep Lille defender Leny Yoro away from under their noses during the summer transfer window, with the Spanish club unwilling to match the Red Devils’ €62m bid.
