Chelsea FINED for setting Premier League record

Chelsea made Premier League history in their 2-1 win over Newcastle at the weekend – but it was an outcome that is set to cost Enzo Maresca’s side thousands of pounds.
Following defeat to Liverpool last weekend at Anfield, the Blues bounced back with a victory over the Magpies thanks to goals from Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer, who netted their sixth and seventh of the season respectively.
While this duo have become familiar on the scoresheet, another increasingly common aspect of Chelsea’s matches is the huge number of yellow cards they pick up, with six coming against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
It is the third time already this season that six or more Chelsea players have been booked in a single Premier League match, becoming the first team in the league’s history to achieve this feat, despite October not being out.
Wesley Fofana was first to trouble referee Simon Hooper as he was shown a sixth yellow card of the season after just 11 minutes, while Romeo Lavia, Noni Madueke, Robert Sanchez, Pedro Neto and Christopher Nkunku all followed him into the book. Sanchez and Nkunku were both cautioned for time wasting.
On top of this, Maresca was also booked.
Consequently, Chelsea are set to be fined £75,000 for failing to control their players. The Blues were previously fined £25,000 as they picked up six bookings against Bournemouth and then £50,000 for doing the same against Nottingham Forest.
Premier League disciplinary table
Chelsea post the worst disciplinary record in the Premier League this season, with 36 yellow cards picked up by their players. No other club has seen more than 29, although Southampton have also had two players dismissed.
This is despite having committed only 101 fouls – the six-fewest in the league.

Arsenal, meanwhile, lead the way in terms of red cards with three but Mikel Arteta’s side have only seen 24 yellows.
Brentford have been the cleanest team in the league, earning only 14 cards.
