Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho has aimed a sarcastic dig at referee Clement Turpin after he was sent off against Manchester United on Thursday night.

Mourinho was incensed when Manuel Ugarte’s second-half challenge on Bright Osayi-Samuel in the penalty area was waved away by Turpin, and his reaction resulted in a red card.

‘The Special One’ was adjudged to have directed foul and abusive language to fourth official Jeremy Stinat, and he was forced to watch the remainder of the Europa League clash from the stands.

Following the match, Mourinho told TNT Sports: “He [Turpin] told me something incredible.

“He told me that at the same time he could see the action in the box and my behaviour on the touchline. I congratulate him because he is absolutely incredible.

“His peripheral vision during the game, at 100 miles per hour, he had one eye on the penalty situation and one eye on the bench and on my behaviour so that's the explanation given. That's why he is one of the best referees in the world!”

Fenerbahce 1-1 Man Utd

Christian Eriksen’s 15th-minute goal opened the scoring in Istanbul, but Man Utd were pegged back by Youssef En-Nesyri just minutes into the second-half after a bullet header from an Allan Saint-Maximin cross.

The result means Man Utd have now drawn all three of their Europa League fixtures so far this season, with the Red Devils currently 21st in the standings.

In addition to his sarcastic jibe at Turpin, Mourinho also praised his players for their performance.

“They [United] got a point against us, not us a point against them. We played amazing. If we play like this in the Turkish league we destroy everything because we played a team at a superior level than us.

“The Premier League has more quality, more intensity, more pace, more everything... I think my boys did an amazing match. We had to do a crazy puzzle, but our performance was extraordinary.

“I couldn't ask for anything more from the players. Andre Onana made two fantastic saves. They scored in a situation we knew they could. We had a phenomenal performance. Come on, he saved the result. My goalkeeper didn't make a save.”
