Chelsea open agent talks to prevent transfer DISASTER
Chelsea are fighting for the future of wonderkid Josh Acheampong, with the player’s agent called in for discussions amid claims the Real Madrid or Liverpool could launch a shock January transfer bid for the wonderkid.
The 18-year-old has been sent into exile by Chelsea amid claims that he will not sign a new deal with the club and has not featured in a competitive game at any level since the middle of September.
Acheampong, who is third-choice right-back behind Reece James and Malo Gusto, has reportedly been informed that he will continue to be left out until he signs a new deal, despite being under contract until 2026.
Chelsea are said to be “bewildered” by the player’s stance, while Acheampong wants a pathway to first-team football.
Meanwhile, interest continues to circle in the teenager, with Real Madrid, PSG and Liverpool all keen on signing him.
In a bid to head off the potential disaster of losing one of their most talented young players, Chelsea are locked in discussions with his agent.
The Independent reports: “Understand Josh Acheampong has an agent talking to Chelsea, and they want to get the player’s pathway absolutely right at such a crucial stage of his development. There’ll consequently be no rush on decision, especially with 18 months left of contract.”
What next?
While this is somewhat positive news for Chelsea, it is unclear where this leaves the player in the meantime.
Acheampong has only played 278 minutes of football for the Blues this season, including a second top-team appearance in the EFL Cup clash against Barrow.
He has actually played more regularly for England U19 and U20 this season, turning out on five occasions for his country.
While Acheampong’s status for the national team highlights his potential, Chelsea must find a solution to his present in order to protect this young jewel for the future.
