Leroy Sane has reacted to transfer rumours linking him with a January move to Newcastle United, though the reaction of the Bayern Munich winger will not be one to please the Toon Army.

Out of contract at the end of the season, Sane is the most valuable player in that position as January approaches, making his future uncertain.

Bayern do not want to lose such a precious commodity on a free transfer, but equally contract negotiations with the 28-year-old appear to be slow, with no deal imminent.

As such, there are numerous transfer rumours surrounding Sane.

Newcastle are one of the clubs eager to sign the Germany international, according to Sport Bild.

The logic is clear. The Magpies have been seeking an additional wide attacking option for months and failed to land such a player in the summer, in part due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

To potentially sign a player such as Sane for nothing beyond his signing bonuses is clearly attractive.

Sane's firm stance

Newcastle received a major setback in their pursuit of the attacker, who is said to be “surprised” that a club like the St James’ Park outfit are after him.

Sane, instead, believes that he belongs at a higher level.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich’s contract offer is at a lower salary than he is presently on. However, the winger could still be handsomely rewarded at the Allianz Arena, with reports indicating that he could earn in the region of €20 million a season.

Newcastle are unlikely to be able to match such a wage due to the PSR regulations, which nearly forced them into a sale of a major star like Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimaraes this term.

Eddie Howe’s side, meanwhile, have made a comparatively slow start to the Premier League season as they sit ninth in the standing with 12 points and are on a four-match winless streak, despite a lack of European football.

If Sane was to join up with them, they would surely need the Champions League to change his mind.
