Man Utd player a ‘rotten apple’ trying to get Ten Hag sacked
Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford is a “rotten apple” who is doing his best to have manager Erik ten Hag sacked, according to a journalist.
Rashford stands accused of trying to get himself sent off in Man Utd’s latest Premier League encounter, a scoreless draw with Aston Villa, which condemned the Old Trafford club to their worst-ever start to a Premier League season.
The 26-year-old England international has endured a slow start to the season on a personal basis, scoring once in England’s top flight and is said to be eager for Ten Hag to leave the club.
The claim has been made by Algemeen Dagblad journalist Geert Langendorff, who was speaking on the AD Voetbalpodcast.
“He is one of the rotten apples. Rashford had problems off the pitch last year. He didn’t quite colour within the lines,” Langendorff said.
“And anyone who saw him on Sunday against Aston Villa. He was obviously trying for a red card. Fortunately, Ten Hag was able to intervene just in time and get him off.”
Langendorff also referred to comments made by former manager Jose Mourinho, who claimed in December 2023 there were four problem players at the club.
“Mourinho never mentioned names,” he added. “But he did say there were one or two more rotten apples who made the job impossible for him. Anthony Martial was one of them, who has since left. The fact that Mourinho said there is one more sitting there. That can only be one and that is Rashford.”
What did Mourinho say?
Speaking to John Obi Mikel’s Obi One podcast, Mourinho said: “There are still people in that club, and when I say people I mean some players but also some other people that are not players, that are still there when I told United after two months: with these people, you are never going to do it. And they are still there.”
At the time, the only United players who were still on the books of the club from Mourinho’s era were Luke Shaw, Antony Martial, Scott McTominay and Rashford.
