Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho could play a decisive role in Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman was expected to be sacked ahead of the October international break, but INEOS have kept faith in the ex-Ajax manager.

Man Utd suffered their worst ever start to a Premier League season, picking up just eight points from their opening seven matches, however the Red Devils have opted to continue with Ten Hag after handing him a contract extension in July.

A 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday has eased the pressure mounting on Ten Hag, but he is yet to secure his future at Old Trafford amid continuous links with the likes of Ruben Amorim, Zinedine Zidane and Graham Potter.

Furthermore, his time at Man Utd could potentially come to an end due to ‘The Special One.’

Jose Mourinho to ‘sack’ Erik ten Hag?

Mourinho is now in charge of Turkish giants Fenerbahce and his side will host Man Utd in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The Red Devils have amassed just two points from their opening two games in the competition, courtesy of draws against Twente and Porto, while Fenerbahce currently sit on four points.

The Super Lig outfit have only lost two of their 14 matches in all competitions this season and Mourinho could pile misery on Ten Hag by claiming all three points in midweek.

While Ten Hag has credit in the bank, thanks to two domestic trophy successes in his first two seasons at Old Trafford, he could well be sacked if Man Utd’s poor start to the season continues.

Of course, top target Thomas Tuchel is no longer on the market, after taking the England job, but Man Utd could potentially pull the trigger if Ten Hag suffers a heavy defeat to Mourinho’s Fenerbahce on Thursday.
