The former Chelsea boss held talks with the Old Trafford club following his Bayern Munich exit at the end of last season, but an agreement wasn’t reached and Man Utd opted to extend Ten Hag’s contract instead.

However, the Red Devils have endured a torrid start to the new campaign and they are currently down in 14th place in the Premier League table, having only picked up eight points from their opening seven matches.

Ten Hag’s side are also winless in their last five games across all competitions and the club’s hierarchy have scheduled a meeting to discuss the Dutchman’s future on Tuesday.

FootballTransfers understands that Ruud van Nistelrooy was approached to replace Ten Hag over the summer and we have been informed that the Man Utd legend is set to take over by 2026 at the latest.

However, Tuchel is also being lined up amid Ten Hag’s uncertain future, according to the Manchester Evening News.

One of the main reasons why Man Utd are interested in the German is because he is currently out of work, while the Red Devils also “admire” several other candidates who are employed by other clubs.

What has Erik ten Hag said?

Following Man Utd’s 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on Sunday, Ten Hag told the media: “I don't have any idea that it is different because they [Man Utd’s owners] should have told me. We communicate - very open, very transparent.

“I would say every day we talk, so I expect I will speak with them.

When asked about the external noise surrounding his future, Ten Hag added: “You said it very well - external noise. Internally, we are disappointed. We know we have to do better. Especially, we need to score more.”
